Heart

Heart

misshapen

a stress ball

squeezed too much too often

forgotten its original

perfect shape

crushed

not squeezed anymore

skin brittled

by the stare of seasons

flakes if touched

misconfigured

requires re-calibration

seams splitting

no quality control

for years

pumps the blood

all wrong

gushes then slows

thick then thin

no longer glides

when my world

had two suns

lined me with light

one sun down

deposits ash now

there is still someone

feeding the fire

not shovelfuls

with broken hands

a coal at a time
