Snowman

My attempt at a festive poem from last year.

Snowman

I was conceived in flight
my first thought crystallized in sky
I collected them
till I had a snowball for a brain
my body rolled into existence
head and torso collided like comets
finished
I’m all head and stomach
no lungs or heart or genitalia
yet they call me a man
more evolved insect
raised up on my bloated abdomen
I have no skeleton
except for the thin bones that are my arms
black as my teeth
I was born old
eyes stuck at full aperture
their blackness absorbing the brightness
always cold despite hat and scarf
the robin my short life-long companion
I bleed into spring
sink into the earth
to dream of my birth
