Heart as a house

Heart as a house

Charred with crumbling walls
all the doors do not close
all the chairs are broken
pillows stuffed with ash
the bed a chunk of ice
cut from a frozen sea
you can feel the breeze
pressing itself against the cracked
smoke haunted windows
sparrows trapped within the walls
curtains in tatters
their frayed edges like fingers
feeling the darkness
the rust of sunlight
speckles the windowsills
more holes than structure now
the chimney a dark throat
full of silence

fireplace still blushing
embers scars still bright
through the ripped off roof
stars drip onto you
lost in thought
your face painted
coated by the light
from my faint fire
