How we drank fire

How we drank fire

How we drank fire
to jump start our hearts

how the memory of fields blows us open
turns us into the tatters of doors

how the inside of our hearts are lined with fields
tasting the sunlight in the dark of our blood

how sparrows turn to ash as we dream them
how the sun buries itself into the sea

how the heart is made of mud
whittled by the river

how love leaves its thumbprint
at the base of our throats

how a thimbleful of shadows
pools there

how mountains are slow fire
stretching towards the sun

sharpened by the dark

how it turns to glass when we die
everything falls through us

how we bend light with our absence
whisper it round a corner
