September

September

Sunlight
settling like warm snow
leaves lit
from within
dreams of fields
smothered in ash

the long sigh
summer spent
singed and scarred
armour cracking open
snake easing out of
its old scales

a plucked owl
reveals its thin sinews
the single spark
that lit everything
cooling in the crucible
silver darkening to pewter

world remembering
flaring before fading
ember at the end
of its name
gently breathing
