Gifts

A shoe box
brimful with blossom

matchbox
full of smoke

thimbleful of dust
pocketfuls of rust

suitcase full
of threadbare leaves

breath of sunlight
caught in the curtains

carrier bag of broken glass
the crumbled angel of a bus shelter

swirl of leaves
scratching the street

shadows from my fractured palms
handfuls of sparrows

spill of chords
under your bed

all the stars
from a starling

rain
inside a piano
