The road

The road

Wrapped in fire
ash cradles down

shudders of light
embers quivering

sparks dim as they rise
flames burrows into the earth

skin becomes smoke
threads up through the whisper of snow

trees stitch the sky
into the dark of the ground

shadows shudder
wind gives birth by tearing itself

feeling the fire we carry
unfolding beneath the road

beneath the snow and ash
beneath the breathless silence

where the candle
with shallow breath

sips at the stillness
