Touch the darkness and darkness touches you back

Touch the darkness and darkness touches you back

Who goes there
in the locked room
in the haunted house
just form then void

seeing things
after you’ve gone
into the long bright dark
bruises birth lightning
as you sleep

the river calls to me
calls me by my name
been calling since I was born
put my ear to the dark
I hear the cries of sunlight
being threaded through the silt

and birds singing into the early night
using the dark to drift their songs
the wind between the stars
slipping from black
into a deeper black

midnight streets slick with birth
neon threads revealing the contours
of it’s new body
reflected sunlight
from the wasted walls of the moon

angels flaking to ash
beneath their white hot halos
