Spinning top
set in motion
by the slipstream
of Santa’s sleigh
won’t let you stop
quivering like a quill
scribbling madness
on the dark ice
of your wilderness
you’ll never topple
you know
there are no king’s men
to even try
and put you back
together again

Haumea is one of the largest, faintest spinning objects in our solar system.
It spins so fast it distorts into an egg-shape. It was nicknamed Santa by the Caltech discovery team.

This poem was taken from my chapbook of planet poems, Solar Satellites.
