Walking with you
slowed our steps
to match our long breaths
considered the faintness
of every footfall
felt them behind us
already beginning to evaporate
weighed each word
in our mouths
explored its shape
with our tongues
made us speak softer
did we hear the grass
stretching skywards?
as stoned sunlight
like lazy lightning
spilt its ribbons
down through the leaves
your tears
tiny snails made of glass
unravelling the spiral
held in their shells
dissolving descending
your cheeks
quiet currents of air
thick as water
streamed between us
birdsong stretched
to whale songs
